Porth Ysgo
Porth Ysgo, near Y Rhiw is a wild and remote beach with cliffs, rocks and sand at low tide.
Porth Ysgo is accessed by a long flight of steps leading down the cliff face at the top of the beach. There is not much of the beach showing at high tide but a large expanse of sand is revealed when the tide is out, with quite a few rocks too, so beware if you're surfing or attempting to come in by boat.
Sometimes the beach is suitable for surfers as it is exposed to the south-westerly swell. The difficult access is probably what puts most surfers off coming to this beach. There is a small charge to use the car park at the top of the path, which is located in a fairly derelict farmyard.
DIRECTIONS: On the B4413 from Llanbedrog, carry on into Aberdaron village centre, where you shall see a signpost for Rhiw which you should follow and you should then head out of the village up a steep hill, with the churchyard on your right. Within two miles you will come across a crossroads with a post box, turn right here and you should come to what looks like a disused farm, with a pond on the left. The car park is around the back of the outbuildings on your right.
